5 of 5 The Best Pickups Ever July 16, 2017
Reviewer: Tommy Gerlach from Jackson, WI United States
I am 17 years old and started playing the guitar at the age of 10 due to seeing John Mayer shred his Monterey Pop Festival live in LA. For 7 months I slowly bought all the parts to build my own Monterey Pop Stratocaster.  I spent months debating what kind of pickups I wanted to put in the guitar. I finally decided to go with David Allen's 60's Rock n Blues pups. this was one of the best decisions with my life... The pickups with vintage pots, .47 cap, vintage bridge and 60's rose wood neck provide a sound that cannot be recreated. After building my guitar I cannot find any other stratocaster, no matter the price, that can beat this tone.  I've had people who have played for 20+ years say they've never heard a strat sound so good! If your debating what kind of pickups to get, please stop and just buy these right now. They will change your life, and anyone who hears your guitar.

5 of 5 Mayer Tone and More! March 28, 2017
Reviewer: Gabe Meyers from Lafayette, LA United States
I ordered these for a very good friend who is a huge Mayer fan. We installed them in his American Standard Strat, Ash body and Maple Board. I have to say they are some of the best pickups I've heard. The Mayer tones are there in droves! The quality is fantastic. They are very full and fat sounding and have great output, but remain balanced, articulate and responsive. They have a glassy high end, the signature scooped mids and a smooth present bass. They have great clarity that captures all the little nuances in your touch, bends and rakes. The bridge pickup was amazing. It was never harsh or brittle but had power and bite. The 2 and 4 positions have that lovely quack and out-of-phase sound that nails Mayer's sound. My friend and I were blown away and I’m thrilled I ordered these from David. I can highly recommend them if you want that Mayer sound or a twist on the classic 60’s Strat tones.

5 of 5 IMHO these pups NAIL the elusive JM tone May 27, 2016
Reviewer: Harry (JRguitar) from Marshalls creek, PA United States
I was looking for a set of pickups to get me most of the way to John's tone and was not prepared to spend 500 or more on a set of "big dippers" I took a shot on these after hearing David's 60's RnB's and with some skepticism I ordered and installed them in my CV 60's Squire Strat. I was MORE than presently surprised, I was blown away! These are the real deal for a very sweet price. I have a sound clip I can share so YOU can be the judge! http://chirb.it/wp/ykOOAE

5 of 5 Holy Toledo, Irma! Batten the hatches! May 27, 2016
Reviewer: LeOtis Duvalier from Huntsville, AL United States
A good friend of mine had been singing the praises of David's pickups & after taking a set of Tru 54s out for a spin I had to admit I liked what I heard. I went to the website, & decided on the JM 60s Rock n Blues set. I installed them in a alder bodied, rw fingerboard Strat I had. I was floored. Meaty tone, great string to string definition, a rich varied tone palette..... and roll back the volume, clean, sparkle-y chime, without any of that pesky nasally thinness. Impressive, very impressive. After running through the positions on my 5 way few times, I found myself returning to the number 2 position. Massive quack, kind of compressed sounding, but still full & lavish. I love these pickups & now believe that my pals had a bit of a flair for understatement. If you're a fan of the 60s Strat sounds, I suggest you give these pickups a try. Your ears will thank you for it. You could spend more money, you're not going to find more (or sweeter) tone.

5 of 5 Excellent pickups for 60's RnB May 27, 2016
Reviewer: Ivars from Latvia / Riga
I have read many good reviews of D.Allen pickups and ordered a set of JM RnB 60's.
I am blown away by the clarity and bite of my guitar now. This is a perfect set for blues and classical rock stuff. However, I am sure that it it will work perfectly for jazz (and not just that) as well.
Of course, if you like John Mayer sound, this is surely must for you as these pickups have scooped mids for which JM is famous.
All in all, I am more than satisfied with the purchase.
Especially I want to thank David Allen for great communication. Hope to buy another set of his great pickups.

5 of 5 A lot more than a Big Dipper! January 13, 2016
Reviewer: Ahmad Yuzamir from Mutiara Damansara, Selangor Malaysia
I received this set a few weeks back from a friend. During the time I had just installed a set of Fender Original 57/62s in my 95 Squier Strat. FYI, the guitar has an alder body with a rosewood neck. the 60s RnB set had a DRAMATIC improvement to my tone and overall sound.  Every note rang more clearer than ever, and it had this round, glassy tone that was very sensitive and captured every little nuances that my fingers did on the strings. If you are considering buying these I would say go ahead, do not hesitate.  If you are looking for a Big Dipper style pickup and was referred to this page, just pull the trigger and get it as it has everything you would want in a Big Dipper style pickup with a lot more on the side.

David Allen has secured my future pickup purchases from now onwards. Eyeing the Buck 90s next for my semi.

Keep up the good work David and team, peace and love from Malaysia.

5 of 5 60's RocknBlues ROCK November 6, 2014
Reviewer: Adam Hunninghake from Grand Junction, CO United States
just installed a loaded pickguard with your 60s rock and blues pickups into my John Mayer Strat. I had previously been playing through the stock Big Dipper Pickups. You are correct that these pickups keep the general flavor of the Big Dippers while adding a bit extra. I actually liked the stocks fairly well and hadn’t encountered another fender strat with pups that I liked better.  Your pickups are nice and fat on the neck pup like the originals but with a clearer top end. The middle or bridge big dipper pickups were okay but with the improved top end on yours, they are much more fun to play through now. It now feels like I have a full 5 positions of fun options to choose from on the strat. The loaded pickguard used great components and looks great on the strat too. Thank you for the excellent work. For those wondering if these pickups are a step up from Fender’s Big Dipper pickups, they definitely are.

5 of 5 AMAZING March 17, 2014
Reviewer: Ian Santillano from Hayward, CA United States
So last year, I wanted to buy these pickups from David. I emailed him and somehow it turned into an invitation to meet him personally to give me these pups. Just wanted to get that little anecdote to praise how awesome his customer service is. Anyway, these pickups are amazing. They are exactly what I wanted out of a John Mayer type pickup, and then some. The glassy tones of the 4th position are to die for. The neck is super percussive yet smooth. The 2nd position is perfect for that "Vultures" tone. The middle is sounds real nice, though I don't use it very often. The bridge has a really nice attack to it (I used to never use my bridge pickup!). Overdriven or distorted, these pickups take it really, really good as well. I suggest that you pick these pups up whether you want that sought after John Mayer tone, or if you want some of the best sounding Strat pickups you'll ever hear.

5 of 5 John Mayer or John Frusciante February 3, 2011
Reviewer: Matthew Lancaster from Uniontown, PA United States
Whether you want that Blues/Pop sound of Mayer or that seering Hendrix like Funkified strat sound of Frusciante these pups can deliver.  I actually chose them due to their Frusciante like quality and style and boy did they deliver.  I had gone through a few sets of pickups - EMGs, Seymour Duncans, Fender Custom Shop 69s and by far the DAllens were the best.  They are usable in all positions compared to the other pickups which mainly saw position 1 - neck pickup.  The bridge is still a bit thin for me but that's Single Coil bridge pickups in general (unless on a Tele).  If you are looking for a nice, mid scooped, Blues/Rock SC set you can't go wrong with these.
