Installing the pickguard was less than an hour. The Blades like to be close to the strings to drive them efficiently, and once I found the sweet spot, wow! Using a Blues Deluxe with a mild overdrive pedal, the sound is sweet and dead quiet.
They are touch sensitive, bright and tight with a smooth bottom end. Classic sounding when strummed, digging into them will get you great SRV overtones in the neck and classic Hendrix in the middle, especially with overdrive. There is plenty of quack available thanks to the optional push switch tone control to access all 7 combinations.
The bridge pickup is incredible. I don't normally play the bridge because it has always been too bright or wimpy, but this JohnnyBlade has it's own voice without being strident, yet there is enough treble when I want to push it. In fact, David's pickguard is the ONLY Strat setup I've played where the tone controls are useful enough to fatten up the tone instead sounding like someone threw a blanket over it.
